Kirsty Choquette, a PhD student at the University of Alberta, will be honored with the Mitacs Award for Inclusive Innovation on Nov. 22 in Ottawa.
Her groundbreaking work focuses on creating a culturally safe environment for Indigenous youth transitioning from child welfare services. Kirsty's innovative evaluation framework prioritizes the voices of the young people in care, shifting the focus from data to their unique needs.
Supported by Mitacs, Kirsty's project integrates tradition and feedback collection through activities like beading and drum-making, empowering youth to share their mentoring experiences.
