A Creative's Guide to Grants

  • Edmonton Unlimited 10107 Jasper Avenue Edmonton, AB, T5J 1W8 Canada (map)

Navigating the world of grants can be confusing and often feels like a real gamble. At this Upstart workshop, master grant writer John Bass will demystify the application process and give you tips for funding your next creative project.

About our expert — John Bass

John Bass is now an Edmonton based grants consultant, who’s had success winning funding for non-profits, artists and academics. Since 2006 he’s learned a lot, initially by winning grants that enabled him to do project consulting.

In a second iteration of building grants management into his full-time work, he’s seen, deciphered and understands the nuance of many different grants. He’s led or collaborated on grant applications large and small throughout Canada and the US.

He was drawn to the Upstart community from the beginning by the “How to Price Your Work” panel discussion. It’s a pain point for grants work too. He’s pleased to have been asked to provide advice, insight, and to give back on the topic of grants.

This session will draw on a wide range of expertise and help artists and upstarts learn to:

· Make grant writing work for you

· Build Your Team

· Stand out from the crowd

· Budget Fearlessly

· Make friends with Funders

· And more
